General Motors is recalling approximately 2,500 SUVs after determining that dealers may have installed incorrect front wheel hub bolts, a defect that can cause partial loss of vehicle control and increase the risk of a crash.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall affects certain 2025 and 2026 model year vehicles equipped with 24-inch wheels, specifically those that either received the dealer-installed accessory brake package (RPO 5JL) or had a front hub replacement performed in service.
Affected Vehicles
- 2025–2026 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV
- 2025–2026 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban 1500
- 2025–2026 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL
The incorrect bolts may loosen or deform over time. Drivers may notice vibration or unusual noise from the front wheels. If a bolt breaks or fully loosens during operation, additional load shifts to the remaining bolts, and according to GM’s own report, that can lead to partial loss of vehicle control.
What Owners Should Do
GM dealers will replace the front left and right wheel hub bolts at no cost. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed beginning June 29, 2026. Owners can check whether their vehicle is included by entering their VIN at NHTSA.gov, or by contacting the relevant brand directly:
- Cadillac: 1-800-333-4223
- Chevrolet: 1-800-222-1020
- GMC: 1-800-462-8782
